Vaisakhi, Vasakhi, Vaishakhi or Baisakhi is a harvest festival celebrated in North India especially in Punjab in mid April. On this day in 1699, the tenth Sikh Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji established Khalsa Panth at Anandpur Sahib. On this day, people perform Gidda and Bhangra dance, distribute sweets, prayers are held by farmers for bumper crop and this is the time for cutting of crops. Sikhs visit gurdwaras and carry out religious processions on this day. At several places in Punjab the fairs are organized.
