The Sharad Purnima is a harvest festival that is celebrated in Ashvin month generally in September or October. It is also known as Kojaagari Purnima, Kumar Purnima, Kaumundi Festival, Sharath Purnima, or Rasa Purnima and is celebrated differently in various parts of the Indian State by Hindus.
On this day Lord Sri Krishna fulfilled the desire of the Gopis of Vrindavan by dancing with them. That’s why the day is also called as Raas Lila day or Raas Leela Diwas. It is also believed that Goddess Lakshmi was born on the occasion of Sharad Purnima and anyone who worships on this night and observes fast will be blessed with prosperity and wealth by Lakshmi. There is also a belief that on this night Goddess Laksmi visits many places and asks for “Kojagari” which means “Who is awake” and those persons who are awake are blessed by her.
