Rath Yatra, Car festival or chariot festival is celebrated to pay tribute to Lord Jagannath’s visit to his birthplace annually. He is believed to be Lord Vishnu’s incarnation.
The festival falls in Ashadha during June or July month and is celebrated at Jagannath temple at Puri, Orrisa in India.
Many people from the whole world flock to Jagannath Puri on this occasion. The three large chariots are created during the occasion in which the idols of Lord Jagannath, his brother Balbhadra and sister Subhadra are carried out to Gundicha Ghar by pulling the chariots. These idols return to the temple after staying there for seven days and are adorned with ornaments of gold.
