The Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Moon Festival or Mooncake Festival, or Harvest Moon Festival is a traditional festival celebrated in Chinese culture. Moon worship has been an integral part of Chinese culture for centuries. Families gather for celebrations, to eat dinner, and to share “moon cakes” as a way to thank the moon for a good harvest.
Similar holidays are celebrated in Japan, Korea, Vietnam, and other countries in East and Southeast Asia.
