Gudi padwa marks the beginning of a new year in Maharashtra and people believe it’s the most auspicious time for any new work. They hang Gudis outside the home which signifies the wars by Maratha warrior Chattrapati Shivaji against the evils.
Ugadi marks the beginning of the New Year in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Ugadi means the Staring of a new era. It is celebrated on the first day of the bright half of the Hindu month of Chaitra.
